Make a bamboo curtain rod to add a tropical touch to any room. Strong, lightweight bamboo is an especially good material for curtain rods; the ridges in the bamboo help keep the curtain rings in place. Use a length of thin bamboo for metal curtain rings with clips to hang lightweight curtains. Bamboo Rod for Lightweight Curtains
1. Install 1-inch curtain rod brackets on each side of the top of the window. The brackets can be even with the top of the window frame or slightly above it.
2. Cut a length of 1-inch-diameter bamboo to fit the brackets. Be sure the bamboo has a small enough diameter to allow 1-inch metal curtain rings to move freely along the rod.
3. Thread curtain rings with attached clips onto the rod and hang the rod on the brackets.
4. Hang a lightweight curtain from the clips. Be sure the clips are evenly spaced along the top of the curtain.
Bamboo Rod and Rings for Heavyweight Curtains
5. Drill a pilot hole in the side of each bamboo napkin ring, using a tiny drill bit. Screw a small screw eye into the pilot hole.
6. Install curtain rod brackets designed to hold 2-inch decorative rods on each side of the top of the window. The brackets can be even with the top of the window frame or slightly above it.
7. Cut a length of 2-inch-diameter bamboo to fit the brackets. Be sure the bamboo has a small enough diameter to allow the rings to move freely along the rod.
8. Sew the bamboo rings evenly along the drape by sewing the screw eyes to the top edge. If the drape is pleated, sew a ring to the top of teach pleat. If the drape is flat, sew a ring every 6 to 8 inches.
9. Thread the rings onto the rod and hang the rod on the brackets.
