Furthermore, you will have the satisfaction of contributing a touch of green living to your home by repurposing and recycling. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Design the Armoire to Hold Your television

1. Measure your antique armoire, your television and any other electronic equipment that you will store in the armoire. The size of the television, components and wiring will determine the size of the hole or holes to be cut in the back of the armoire. Visit furniture stores to view television armoires that are similar to yours, paying particular attention to how they are designed and where the holes are cut in the armoire for connecting components.

2. Select a plastic or rubber grommet ring to size the hole you will cut in armoire for wires.

Select a grommet ring with a circle large enough to fit surge protector plug and wiring for any components, such as speakers, that are outside the armoire. Choose a plastic or rubber grommet to help protect electrical wires and cords. The grommet ring will frame the hole that you will cut in the armoire. Using your grommet, trace inside the grommet ring on the lower back of the armoire. This marks where you will cut the armoire to make a hole for the a surge protector plug-in to reach the electrical outlet.

3. Remove parts of the armoire that do not fit your design. Be sure any vertical supports that you plan on removing are not supporting armoire areas that could begin to sag or skew. According to your television measurements, cut the back out of the armoire to fit your television. With-flat panel televisions, many armoires are deep enough so that this is not necessary.

4. Cut a hole in the armoire to thread the surge protector through for plugging into the wall outlet.

Drill or saw along the grommet circle you marked to cut a hole in the back of the armoire so that the plug-in strip cord can extend to the wall outlet. Grommets have two pieces. Insert one piece into the hole cut in the armoire and then snap the other piece from the opposite side of the armoire hole to cap the first piece. Mount the plug-in strip and channel its cord through the grommet hole.

5. Install shelving for your television inside the armoire by placing a bookshelf or small table that fits the space or by installing adjustable shelves on tracks. Position the television and components on the armoire shelving and plug into the surge protector. Connect the plug-in strip to wall outlet and you are ready to watch television.
