Gowalla is a location-based game for use on GPS-enabled smart phone devices. Users "check in" to various locations to share their whereabouts with friends, collect stamps and earn items. Items are "digital souvenirs" according to Gowalla, with a unique serial number and are randomly distributed amongst locations. Some items can only be found in certain geographic locations or specific categories. Users can carry up to 10 items, archive them or drop them at specific locations for other users to discover. Earning items is just a matter of regularly using the application.
Instructions
1. Open the Gowalla application on your smart phone when you arrive at a location.
2. Click the "Check In" button. Gowalla will use access your phone's GPS to determine your location. Select your exact site from the displayed listed of nearby places, if necessary (if in a highly populated area, the app may not be able to pinpoint the exact shop you are in).
3. Click "Check In" once your location has established. Optionally, you can add a picture or a note to your check in. Gowalla will process the check-in. Once confirmed, you are notified if you picked up an item.
4. Repeat the process at each location you visit throughout your days to increase the chances of earning more items.
