Vaccinations are an important part of responsible pet ownership.
Vaccinations are critical for the health of dogs and for stopping the spread of canine illnesses. Many dog illnesses can be transmitted to humans, so vaccinations are truly a public health issue. However, dog vaccinations can also be prohibitively expensive, and for dog owners struggling to pay for food, toys and training, a cheap vaccination can make a major difference. Depending on where you live and the needs of your pet, there are several options available.
Animal Shelters
Many animal shelters offer discount vaccinations either regularly or on certain days of the month. Often these vaccinations are offered at cost for only a few dollars. Contact your county's animal shelter or local Humane Society for information on discounted vaccinations.
Pet Stores
Many pet stores have inexpensive vaccination services. They also may have regular days throughout the year during which they offer vaccination services sponsored by local veterinary clinics or animal shelters. Call the pet store in your area to ask about availability.
Mobile Clinics
Mobile clinics are run by veterinarians who drive to their clients' location to provide basic veterinary services. Because these clinics do not have large, expensive practices to run, they frequently offer very inexpensive services. Try searching online for a mobile clinic near you. Some mobile clinics also have discount service days at local pet stores or animal shelters.
Vouchers
If you adopted your dog from an animal shelter or rescue group, you may be able to get a voucher for free or discounted vaccinations. Ask the adoption agency if such vouchers are available. If not, some veterinary clinics offer discounts to recently adopted dogs, so call around to determine if any veterinarians are offering vouchers for inexpensive vaccinations.
