Best Home Furnishings and La-Z-Boy both manufacture recliners, sell through dealers, sell furniture other than recliners, sell custom recliners and manufacture their products in the United States. They have some similar styles and fabrics, but that is where the similarities end. Since each company sells through dealers, the customer experience can be dependent on the individual dealer. Best Home Furnishings offers eight recliner models, and La-Z-Boy offers 70 different models. Best recliner has five base models: Pressback. Rocker, Swivel Glider, Swivel Rocker and Wallhugger. La-Z-Boy offers different functions as well, including ComfortTouch, Lift Recliners, Eco-Comfort, Rocking Motion, Gliding/Swivel Motion, Wall Recliners, and Heat & Massage. Best considers Power Lift, Heat and Massage, Best-Max "BodyRest" and The Beast as premium options, and availability is dependent on the dealer.
Exclusive Features
Best has trademarked "The Beast" recliner with a 7-gauge steel recline mechanism that supports 400 pounds. It reclines to 83" when fully stretched. The "BodyRest" is another Best trademark for a mechanism that supports totally flat reclining Pressback feature with springs and a frame that supports 399 pounds. Features considered to be exclusive to La-Z-Boy recliners include locking removable backs, adjustable reclining tension, total lumbar support in all positions, 18 reclining combinations, three-position footrest, patented reclining mechanism, patented four-sided unibody frame, special fabric and quality La-Z-Boy testing.
Fabrics
Best recliners are offered for sale in over 1,000 fabric, leather and finish options. Best requires that all fabrics pass the Joint Industry Fabric Guidelines to minimize fiber migration as well as their own cycle tests which assess fabric abrasion, shedding and frame and caster tests. La-Z-Boy fabrics include leather, fabric and eco-comfort styles.
Company Structure
Best Home Furnishing is a privately held 40-year-old family-owned business. La-Z-Boy Incorporated is a publicly traded company with several different divisions including the retail division--La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery stores. La-Z-Boy operates internationally, whereas Best Home Furnishings sells only in the United States. La-Z-Boy independent store revenue is incorporated into the corporation's financials. La-Z-Boy has manufacturing facilities both in Mexico and the United States and it imports core components for assembly in the United States.
Price
Due to options, fabric, style and periodic sale pricing, it is difficult to do a like price comparison; however, the La-Z-Boy price points seem to be higher.
