Decorate With Brown Leather Furniture

Leather is a classic in home decor.

Brown leather furniture is easy to decorate around because nearly every color works well with brown, which is created by mixing the primary colors of red, blue and yellow. In essence, each of these colors are found within the shade. Brown, found naturally in nature, is considered an earthy hue, and is associated with security and comfort. Brown leather has long been a classic in home decor due to its timeless look and durability. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Determine the atmosphere you hope to achieve. Before adding drapes, throw pillows, area rugs or artwork decide what kind of room you want. Brown leather can be elegant when surrounded by richly colored textiles, earthy in combination with wood and other natural elements, or modern when surrounded by neutral, pattern-free walls and accessories.

2. Counteract the intensity of the brown leather sofa with a soft wall color. The color can be anything you choose as long as you remember to tie that shade in with the room's other accessories. While they don't have to be precisely the same color, the draperies, area rug, throw, pillows and artwork should all coordinate for a look of continuity.

3. Add non-leather pieces of furniture. Nothing says that all the room's furniture has to be made of leather. In fact, adding fabric covered furniture makes the entire room feel softer and adds visual interest. Choose pieces made of light colored fabric to balance the leather's heavy, masculine appearance.

4. Introduce leather to other areas of the room. Small splashes of leather on other surfaces, such as a leather trimmed desk blotter, picture frames, artwork or drapery tie-backs will all relate back to the primary piece of furniture in the space, tying everything together. If you have a coffee or end table, shelving unit or other piece made of wood, consider using upholstery tacks to attach strips of leather to their edges.

5. Pay special attention to lighting. Dark leather can make a room feel dark, so make sure the room has plenty of natural light plus the overhead lighting and lamps it needs to feel bright. Candles on the coffee table and mantles, uplights under wall art, and lightweight window coverings can all help lighten the room.
