Attach A Headboard To A Metal Bed Frame

Headboards add elegance to an empty bed frame.

While not necessary for the form or function of a bed, a properly installed headboard can drastically alter the look and feel of a bedroom. Headboards came in a variety of sizes and styles, from wood, to wicker, to metal, to upholstered. However, they all attach to a metal bed frame the same way. This is a job any do-it-yourselfer can manage in about 30 minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Pull the bed about two feet away from the wall to allow yourself room to work. The mattress and box spring can remain in place, but any bedding that drapes over the metal frame should be removed before installing your headboard.

2. Place the headboard at the head of the bed and align the holes in the legs of the headboard to the matching holes at the head of the bed frame. Depending on the size and style of the headboard, you may need a second pair of hands to hold it in place from this point on.

3. Insert the fasteners into each hole and secure them with the appropriate tool. This will vary depending on the headboard: some use bolts, others screws. However, the headboard should come with its own hardware.

4. Position the bed in the desired location and replace any bedding that had been removed.
