Children'S Birthday Activities

Children's birthday parties do not have to be expensive.

Childhood birthday parties mean fun and excitement for kids. While there are many commercial establishments that host kids' parties, home-based activities are equally entertaining at a fraction of the price. Getting your child involved in the planning of the party is one way to spend time together and to ensure that the party is a reflection of your child's personality and interests. Does this Spark an idea?

Pinata Party

A pinata is exciting for everyone.

Pinatas are one way to build excitement at a child's party. Today in America, pinatas are available at most party supply stores in a variety of shapes and colors. Fill the pinata with small toys or candies and hang it in a safe place, clear from anything breakable. Blindfold each child as they take their turn trying to break the pinata with a broom handle or stick. Start with the youngest child and work toward the oldest to ensure that everyone gets a turn before the pinata breaks.

Clowning Around

A clown at a child's party can be very entertaining.

Clowns have been used to evoke laughter and joy from crowds for hundreds of years, and a child's birthday party is a perfect opportunity to employ this age-old form of entertainment. Clowns for hire are professionals who have a variety of skills, which may include juggling, gymnastics, joke telling and magic; each one is different and the one that is right for your party depends on the age of the child and his interests.

Traditional Favorites

Traditional party games are always a hit.

Entertainment at a child's birthday party does not have to be complicated or expensive. Traditional party games such as pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, musical chairs and hot potato are as relevant today as they were a generation ago. To add to the excitement, award prizes for the winner of each game. Some parents prefer to allow only one prize per guest. Prizes can be homemade cookies, craft supplies or a homemade ribbon that says what the child has won.

Fun in the Kitchen

Making personal pizzas is a good party activity.

Most birthday parties include a meal. One option is to have the guests make their own personal-size pizzas. This is an activity that everyone can get involved in. Purchase frozen pizza shells and ask your child to help prepare the toppings before the party begins. Traditional toppings can be provided, as well as wacky toppings such as chocolate chips and mustard. Kids will love being able to make their own pizza and will enjoy eating their hard work.
