A vanity stool can be recovered and repurposed in a variety of ways.
A vanity stool is a short, small overstuffed seat traditionally used in front of ladies vanities. Because of their height, they often are used as footstools or extra seating in bedrooms or other areas of the home. The original fabric on the vanity stool, however, often is dated or in shredded disrepair. Update the fabric quickly and easily to a selection more suited to your own style and taste, and make your vanity stool a furniture piece to be proud of. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Turn your vanity stool upside down and locate the screws on the underside that hold the top piece of the stool in place. Remove each of these screws with your screwdriver. Set the screws aside in a safe place.
2. Push the top portion of the vanity stool up and out of the frame. Carefully unwrap the fabric from the top piece of the stool, being careful not to rip or tear it if possible. Place the top piece to the side.
3. Lay your new fabric right side down on a hard surface. Place your old fabric on top of your new fabric. Flatten out the old fabric as much as possible using your hands. Place paperweights around the edges of the flattened old fabric to keep it flat and in place on the new fabric. Trace the outline of the old fabric onto the new fabric.
4. Remove the paperweights and the old fabric from the new fabric and cut out the new fabric on the line you drew.
5. Center the piece of new fabric over the top piece of your vanity stool. Adjust the fabric until it is positioned exactly as you want it. Hold the fabric in place with your hands and turn the top piece upside down.
6. Staple the fabric into place in the center of the one of the underside edges of the top piece of the stool.
7. Turn the top piece of the stool over to smooth the fabric and tighten it; flip this piece over again and staple directly across from the side you just stapled. Repeat on the other two sides, stopping between stapling to smooth your fabric over the top of the stool.
8. Lay the top stool piece so that the staple side faces up. Excess fabric will bunch at the corners. Start at one corner and gather this fabric between your thumb and index finger. Pull the fabric as tightly as you can and staple it neatly to the underside of the top piece. Repeat with the other 3 corners.
9. Replace the top piece onto the frame and screw it into place.
