Donate A Used Sofa

Donating a used sofa is a relatively simple way to positively impact your community. Many people and families are unable to afford new furniture, and donating your used sofa can make a tremendous difference in their lives. By utilizing national and local charitable organizations, including web-based organizations, you can fairly easily donate a used sofa to someone in need.

Instructions

1. Contact the charities that handle charitable giving in your area, especially Goodwill Industries, Salvation Army and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Look up the contact information for a charity's local chapter in your phone book, and call to schedule a pick-up time for your sofa or find out when regular monthly pick-up service occurs.

2. Call a local church. Churches often have donation drives and accept larger items, such as furniture. Churches may also have a list of families that may be in need of a particular item, such as a sofa.

3. Ask local theater groups (especially at public schools) if they may need a used sofa for staging. Many times theater groups can't afford to buy furniture for plays and other performances in set design, and they rely on charitable donations.

4. Contact local homeless or women's shelters. Shelters rely in a large part on charitable donations, and a sofa could be of good use in a common area. Local shelters may also have information on individuals who are in need of a sofa.

5. List your sofa on Freesharing.org, which is an organization that allows you to register your used item for free on a forum. Someone who is in need of that item can contact you to arrange for pick up or delivery.
