Diy Bay Window Curtain Rods

Bay windows offer charm as well as additional light into any room. However, the shape of the casement can be challenging when it comes to selecting corresponding window treatments. There are several rod options to frame your bay window. Does this Spark an idea?

Rod Choices

Options for rods include bay window curtain rods, three curtain rods or two curtain rods. Stores that specialize in window treatments may offer a true bay window curtain rod that is a single rod fitted specifically for your window. The results are chic but may also have a high-end price tag due to the customization.

A more cost-effective option is to install three standard curtain rods: one above each window casement. You can find standard rods in most discount stores, resulting in a lower cost. Depending on the window treatment selected and the layout of the window, the rods may be installed close enough to give the illusion of a single rod.

You can also purchase two smaller curtain rods that fit between the three windows to add interest to the bay window. Generally, this technique is used to create a more elegant appearance since it is used to display long, sheer panels.

Curtains on a Stick

For the most inexpensive--yet versatile--solution, consider lining your bay window with paint sticks instead of curtain rods. You will need a level, a glue gun, several paint sticks from a local paint store or department store, long strips of fabric fastener, a staple gun and your window treatments.

Starting at the far left side where you want your curtains or valance to begin, lay your paint stick horizontally across the top of the window frame. Position how high you want it installed and use your level. Use your staple gun to secure the stick into place.

Lay the next stick next to the first, level it even with the first stick and continue to install paint sticks in a horizontal line all the way around your bay window, ending with where you want the treatment to end at the last window. You may have to cut the sticks to fit around the bay corners. Just make sure you keep them in a continuous, even line.

Use your glue gun to glue one side of your fabric fastener strips along the paint sticks. Glue or sew the other side of the strips to the top of your valance.

Fasten the valance to the paint sticks for a customized window treatment.

This flexible option allows you to maintain a diverse selection of treatments to match any season, holiday or mood.
