Every character in "Mass Effect 2" has a detailed backstory that plays a major part in the overall narrative of the game. As you travel through space with your ragtag group of companions, each companion will offer you what is known as a "loyalty" mission. Completing a person's loyalty mission unlocks a new costume for that person and has a massive impact on which ending you receive when completing the game.
Instructions
1. Speak with Jacob as soon as the game's story places you aboard the "Normandy" for the first time. He is not very talkative at first, but go ahead and explore every conversation option available.
2. Follow the natural story of the game until you dock at Omega. There you will complete several missions and add a couple of new members to your crew.
3. Speak with Jacob again after completing the Omega missions. He will be slightly more open to conversation, but will not offer you his loyalty mission quite yet.
4. Continue until you reach the tenth main mission in the game: "The Council." At this point, speak with Jacob. He will talk to you about his father and ask for your help tracking him down.
5. Offer to help Jacob. Once you have done so, you will find a new waypoint on your galaxy map marking the last known location of Jacob's father.
