Beat "Screaming Mantis"
In the espionage-thriller "Metal Gear Solid 4," for the PlayStation 3, one of the hardest boss fights in the game is against Screaming Mantis. You encounter the Screaming Mantis boss fight during Act 5 of Metal Gear Solid 4; she is the leader of the Beauty & the Beast Corps that have been plaguing Snake (Metal Gear's protagonist) for most of the game. While the fight is tough, some strategy will help you through it.
Instructions
1. Inject yourself with the syringe you used to kill Vamp. Doing this will prevent Screaming Mantis from controlling you. Once the fight starts, Screaming Mantis takes control of Meryl (Snake's former love interest) and a few other enemy soldiers.
2. Find a safe haven in the upper level of the arena. This will take you out of reach of Meryl and the enemy soldiers being controlled by Screaming Mantis and give you a good shot at Screaming Mantis.
3. Use a lethal weapon (such as the M4) and shoot the blue and the red dolls on the sides of Screaming Mantis. Continue shooting the dolls until Screaming Mantis drops them; pick the dolls up. If Meryl gets in your way, follow step 4. Otherwise, continue to step 5.
4. Knock Meryl out with a non-lethal weapon, such as the Mk. 2 to prevent you from accidentally killing Meryl and ending the battle in Screaming Mantis' favor.
5. Aim the red doll at Screaming Mantis and shake the controller back forth. Once you have the dolls, equip the red doll, aim it at Screaming Mantis with the L1 button, and shake your controller back and forth; Screaming Mantis' health and psyche will decrease. Dodge any daggers Screaming Mantis throws at you. Continue doing this until Screaming Mantis' health depletes and she enteres the "beauty mode."
6. Walk backwards as Screaming Mantis (in beauty form) comes towards you and fire at her with your weapon of choice. Just as you defeated the prior Beauty & the Beast Corps in their beauty mode, the same tactic works here: avoid Screaming Mantis and fire at her with everything you have until her health depletes.
