Donate Used Beds

Donate your gently used bed.

You got a new bed and you don't know what to do with the old one. You don't want to throw it away because it's still in good shape, but it's too big to keep around the house. None of your friends or family need a bed at the time, so you think about donating it, but don't know how. Donating a used bed is an easy way to help others. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Make sure your bed is in donating condition. Regulations vary from state to state, but some places require that a bed be sanitized and wrapped in plastic to be resold.

2. Search online and in the phone book for second-hand stores or thrift shops. Contact them to see if they accept used beds, need them and what their requirements are for accepting them. Some of these locations provide you a nominal price to take your bed, some don't.

3. Post an ad for a free used bed online. Mediums like Craiglist.com and eBay.com are popular and can help you get rid of anything that you don't want. Usually you will have to set up an account to post an ad. If you would rather, post an ad in a local newspaper instead of online. Likely, though, you will have to pay for such ad space.

4. Place fliers around your community that advertise a free used bed. If you live in a university town, place fliers around the school at laundry locations or university center bulletin boards. There are many students there who need new furniture, but are low on money. Make sure to include your phone number and other contact information on the flier.

5. Donate the bed to a homeless or woman's shelter. Usually these places are running on charitable donations and can use all the resources that they can get. You can probably find them by looking online or in the phone book. Call before taking the bed to the shelter to make sure they will accept it.
