Fallout 3 Lock Picking Instructions

Pick locks on Fallout 3 to achieve better scores and ranks.

In the computer game "Fallout 3," you will come across countless locked doors, crates, ammunition boxes and other objects. Anything that is has been locked usually contains something useful or blocks access to an important area such as an ammo closet. Learn to pick these locks and you will find yourself with a significant advantage in weapons, armor and ammunition.

Instructions

1. Save your game with the F5 key before you start picking the lock you wish to open. If you happen to break all of your lock picks or try to force the lock and fail, you will want to have a saved file to fall back on and try again.

2. Interact with the door as if you were trying to open it. A window will come up showing the front view of a lock. You will have control over two items, a screwdriver and a lock pick. To pick the lock you must position the pick in the right spot, then turn the lock 90 degrees with the screwdriver.

3. Move your pick to any position and test the screwdriver. If the lock does not turn or stops turning and the pick trembles, stop turning the screwdriver immediately. Reposition the pick and repeat.

4. Keep repositioning the pick. As you get closer to the spot that will release the lock, the screwdriver will be able to turn the lock farther and farther toward 90 degrees. Move the pick in the direction that increases the amount of space the screwdriver is able to turn the lock.

5. When you have found the right spot, the screwdriver will turn the lock a complete 90 degrees and the lock will open. Enjoy your reward.
