Twitter is an online social media platform that allows users to post status updates, news, links and other online content in 140-character increments. These status updates are called tweets. Twitter users can follow each other's Twitter accounts and read each other's updates automatically from the Twitter website. There are several easy methods to tell who is following your Twitter account.
What Is a Twitter Follower?
A Twitter follower is a registered Twitter user that subscribes to your Twitter posts. While they are logged in to their Twitter accounts, your followers can read your public Twitter posts from the Twitter homepage, along with the posts of any other Twitters they follow. The posts, called tweets, display in chronological order, so that the home page of a logged-in Twitter user displays the chronological culmination of all the posts of Twitters he follows.
Email Notifications
You can set your Twitter account to automatically send you email notifications each time someone new follows you on Twitter. While logged in, click your user name in the upper right menu, then click "Settings" in the drop-down sub-menu. In the "Notifications" tab, check the box next to "New Follower Emails" and click the blue "Save" button. Each time a Twitter user follows you, you'll receive an email notice at the email address associated with your Twitter account.
Followers List
If you'd like to see a cumulative, up-to-date list of all your Twitter followers all on one page, Twitter makes it easy for you to see your followers at a glance. Log in and click the "Followers" link under your user name on the right-side column. Twitter will populate the page with your latest followers, displaying the most recent followers at the top. As you scroll down, Twitter will automatically expand the search results and show you more followers, until you get to the end of your list.
Twitter Notification Services
You can use third-party software services such as HootSuite and TweetDeck to notify you of new followers, as well as to view an at-a-glance list of your followers. Typically, you must create an account with the service, download the application to your smartphone or your computer hard drive, and associate your account with your Twitter.
