Build A Toddler Table

Building your very own table for your toddler can be done with some simple tools and supplies. Building a structure that is safe for your toddler, as well as one that is functional for his needs, can be done in about an hour and a half, not counting the time it takes for the paint to dry. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cut the corners of the 1/4" plywood piece so that the edges are rounded slightly. Use a saw to trim each corner of the table completely. Cut at a curved angle so that the edges are completely rounded. This will prevent your toddler from hitting and injuring himself on sharp edges. Sand the cut mark evenly with sandpaper to remove any rough spots.

2. Place the 1/4" plywood flat on the ground. Apply wood glue to the tops of each of the four 2 x 4s and place the 2 x 4s at the four corners of the plywood to act as the table's legs. Allow the glue to dry for about 30 minutes.

3. Turn the table upright, and nail in the legs from the top of the table. This will create a firmer hold for the legs and make the table more sturdy.

4. Fill in any nail holes or dents in the wood surface of the legs with the putty. Sand off the tops to make the surface even. Allow the putty to dry for at least 20 minutes.

5. Paint the surface and legs in the color you have chosen. Pick a paint that is lead-free, and be sure to paint the table in a well-ventilated area.

6. Allow the paint ample time to dry (several hours, depending on how many coats you have put on). When the paint is dry, apply a clear sealant coat to help protect it from chipping over time.
