Group Homes For Troubled Teens Near Pomona California

Group homes in California provide residential care and treatment for troubled youth.


California has the most group homes within in its borders of any state in the United States. There are over a thousand group homes in California providing services to a variety of populations in need of support. Group homes may be privately owned, secular, faith-based, government operated, non-profit or a combination of these.


HV Group Homes


HV Group Homes are a nonprofit benefit organization offering services to in-need youth in Long Beach, California, approximately 41 miles from Pomona. HV residential care settings provide structured programming for those adolescents aged 11-17 who have not been able to be treated in existing community care facilities within Los Angeles County. Therapeutic interventions may include psychotherapy, groups, behavioral interventions and coaching.


Abundant Life Academy


Abundant Life group homes are Christian-based homes for troubled adolescents. One of their boarding schools for troubled teens is located in Pasadena, California, a 27-mile drive from Pomona. These group homes present an alternative to state-run group homes and are privately run therapeutic settings. According to Abundant Life, group homes for struggling youth are safe, family-like settings where "trusting and intimate" relationships foster "coachability." Abundant Life has smaller number of students, creating an intimate setting similar to a group home, but with the ethic of a boarding school.


San Gabriel Children's Center


The San Gabriel Children's Center operates six culturally diverse Level-14 residential treatment homes in the Eastern San Gabriel Valley. The residential homes are located in Covina, which is approximately 10 miles from Pomona; Azusa, which is approximately 13 miles away; and Glendora, which is approximately 12 miles away. Residential services include supervision, behavior management and modification, community activities, educational and physical activities, arts, transportation to and from most family activities, and access to medical, educational and psychiatric care. The program also provides residents with clothing, needs assessment and an allowance.


Boys Republic and Girls Republic


Boys Republic is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian school and treatment community for troubled youth located in Chino Hills, approximately 9 miles from Pomona. Boys Republic, and its companion program, Girls Republic, offer a range of services through their main campus. The main campus offers cottage-style accommodations with housing for 25 students in each cottage. There is 24-hour supervision on this self-contained campus. Boys Republic offers multidisciplinary treatment for teenagers in need of highly structured supervision with an on-site high school, vocational preparedness and work experience programs, athletics and student government providing leadership training. Community-based satellite programs are available for youth who require 24-hour supervision and treatment in a smaller, less-restrictive setting. Satellite sites are located in Santa Ana, Los Angeles and Pomona, each accommodating between 10 to 20 boys, and for Girls Republic, in Monrovia, accommodating up to eight girls. Satellite programming provides the same services that are available through the Boys Republic's main campus program.
