One reason people travel by RV is to have a comfortable bed to sleep in versus sleeping on a sleeping bag on the ground. Some RV beds are king, queen or twin sized, and some RVs even have bunk beds. You can use any type of mattress you want on the bed, but most beds are built on a platform as the underside can be used for storage.
Instructions
1. Screw the two 50-inch two-by-two boards into the two 60-inch two-by-two boards, using ½-inch screws, forming a rectangle. You may want to pre-drill starter holes to prevent cracking in the frame.
2. Screw the frame on top of one piece of the 50-by-60-inch plywood that is 3/4 inch thick. Fasten this to the floor, using 1½ inch screws.
3. Screw a 2-by-2-by-12-inch board into each corner, using a 2½-inch screw.
4. Mount two more of the 2-by-2-by-12-inch boards 18 inches away from where the head of the bed will be.
5. Complete another 2-by-2-by-60 inch frame, using 2½-inch screws to fasten to the original frame. You will then have a rectangular box (frame) to fit a queen-size mattress.
6. Nail the 12-by-50-inch plywood to the top and bottom sides of the frame. Then nail the 12-by-60-inch boards to the sides of the frame. Attach the last two 2-by-2-by-12-inch boards three inches apart from the two-by-two boards mounted toward center.
7. Measure the last piece of plywood 18 inches from the 50-inch side, using 1½ -inch screws to fasten to frame. Attach the piano hinge to this piece.
8. Lay the large piece of plywood on the frame and fasten to the piano hinge. Install the gas struts to the frame and bed top, using the hardware that comes with the struts.
9. Apply the mattress to the built pedestal frame.
