If you want rustic outdoor furniture, such as chairs, you can build it cheaply using recycled materials such as wood pallets. Using wood pallets, you can build a sturdy outdoor chair that can fit most any landscape or patio. Use padding found in craft stores for the seats or use old couch cushions. There is no cutting or calculating and only one measurement is required. The project can be completed within an afternoon. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Sand down all four pallets to eliminate rough edges and corners.
2. Measure the distance across the face of a pallet.
3. Set two pallets on end with the bottoms facing each other. Space the pallets a distance equal to the measured width of the pallet face.
4. Set the third pallet on its side between the other two. Place this pallet so its sides butt against the bottoms of the other two pallets. Move the middle pallet to where the middle board of the side pallets are located. Drill screws through the sides of the middle pallet into the corresponding boards of the side pallets. Use four or more screws to ensure stability.
5. Turn the structure so the top of the middle pallet faces up. The middle pallet becomes the seat, with the two support pallets forming the arms and sides.
6. Position the fourth pallet halfway up the back edges of the side pallets with the pallet face forming the back of the chair. Drill screws through the underside of the top of the fourth pallet into the sides of the two side pallets and the seat. This forms the back of the chair.
7. Stain the chair if desired. Paint the chair with water-resistant stain.
