Cheap Furniture Ideas

Few people have the money for high-end furniture these days, but that doesn't mean you have to be sitting on crates or living out of boxes. Cheap, good quality furniture is easy to find.

Salvation Army & Goodwill

Go to the Salvation Army or Goodwill closest to the wealthier neighborhoods where you live. You are likely to find beds, tables, drawers, chairs, bookshelves, desks and lamps year round for pennies on the dollar.

You may have to tour several charity stores over a series of weeks to find the best values on exactly what you need. And if you haven't done so yet, you will be surprised at the high quality of furniture you find. Oak tables, brass beds and mahogany desks are common.

After you find the two or three best charity stores in your town, you will never need to pay full price for furniture again.

Craigslist

If you visit craigslist.com and select the city you live in, then select "Furniture" in the "For Sale" section, you will find thousands of listings. In many cases, you will find pictures of the furniture for sale, and a firm price will be quoted. When buying through Craigslist, never hand over money until you've seen and taken possession of the furniture. Never send money for purchases via PayPal for delivery to be provided by the seller.

Rather than selecting single items of furniture for sale, you may prefer using the "Garage Sales" link on Craigslist to find furniture. Weekly garage sales may help you find neighborhood sales where a number of pieces of furniture will be offered at one time.

Overstock

If you really need to purchase new furniture, perhaps to avoid possible exposure to allergens like mold or house dust, check out Ooverstock.com. The furniture selection changes every week and their prices are up to 80 percent off. They provide shipping across the United States, delivering most items within two to 10 days. They have a reasonable return policy as well.
