A small city located in the northern part of Ohio, Shelby has limited lodging with only one hotel in town. A host of hotels, however, can be found in Mansfield, which is approximately 15 miles to the southeast. This area of the state is known for its auto racing connections. Located in the greater Mansfield area are the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway and the Mid Ohio Sport Cars Course.
Relax Inn Shelby
The Relax Inn is the lone hotel located in Shelby. This is a largely no-frills establishment. In January of 2011, rooms with a single bed started at $35 a night. Rooms with two beds listed at $55. Situated on Route 39, the hotel is within a few minutes of the North Central State College Kehoe Center for Advanced Learning. The hotel does not have a restaurant or swimming pool. Guests do receive a free newspaper and there is daily housekeeping. Some of the rooms have kitchenettes. Pets are allowed and nonsmoking rooms can be requested.
Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Mansfield
Guests at the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Mansfield hotel are five miles from Carousel Magic, a facility where artists carve carousel horses. Mansfield is the home of what's known as the Carousel District. This has led to it being called the Carousel Capital of Ohio. The Mansfield Motorsports Speedway is eight miles from the hotel and the Richland B & O Bike Trail is two miles away. Guests receive a free breakfast at a hotel with a fitness center, business center and an indoor swimming pool. The rooms started at $89 a night in January of 2011. The Richland Mall is less than three miles from the hotel.
Hampton Inn Mansfield/Ontario
The Hampton Inn Mansfield/Ontario hotel features an indoor heated pool and jacuzzi. It also provides a daily hot breakfast buffet. It is situated 0.5 miles from the Richland Mall, five miles from the Carousel District, six miles from the Mansfield Art Center and five files from the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. Another attraction in this area is the Ohio State Reformatory, a museum featuring prison artifacts. Rooms in January of 2011 listed from $109 to $129 a night. Guests receive a free pass to a health club in Mansfield. A golf course is two miles from the hotel.
Motel 6 Mansfield
The Motel 6 Mansfield hotel is an affordable options with rooms listing as low as $35 a night in January of 2011. Children with a parent or guardian stay at the hotel for free. Promotions in January 2011 included what it calls a Shawshank Trail Package. Along with a room, this package includes a $10 gas card, a disposable camera and a bag with two bottles of water and two energy bars. The hotel's limited amenities include a shaded patio and an outdoor swimming pool. The Mid Ohio Sport Cars Course is nine miles from the Motel 6.
