Keep your wooden rolltop desk looking this good no matter how old it is.
Rolltop desks provide a different cleaning challenge with all of their crevices, nooks and crannies. Cleaning an old rolltop desk is an all-day job if you do it right, but it's worth the time and effort. Once the desk is cleaned up properly, you shouldn't have to clean it that thoroughly again for quite a while. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Use the soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to thorughly vacuum the entire desk inside and out to lift away dust and dirt buildup in the crevices and nooks of the desk, which eliminates the problem of collecting the dust and dirt on your cleaning rag and spreading it instead of removing it.
2. Mix one half gallon of hot water in a bucket with 3 capfuls of Murphys Oil wood soap, which is a thorough and gentle cleaner that won't lift away the stain on the wood or damage the finish.
3. Dip your cleaning cloth in the bucket, and wring it out well. Since rolltop desks are generally made of wood, you don't want to get the wood saturated.
4. Wipe every surface of the rolltop desk with the cloth. Rinse and wring the cloth out often to make sure that you lift away any dirt left behind by the vacuum instead of simply smearing it around.
5. Allow the desk to dry completely, and buff it with a microfiber towel to make it shine.
