Since power string trimmers were first introduced, keeping a lawn neat and under control has become easier and faster. But string can jam in the cutting head, and wrestling with yards of string has made replacing trimmer string a chore. The trimmers in Sear's Craftsman line of products use either the Hassle Free cutting head for two trimmer strings or the Hassle Free Plus cutting head for four strings. This type of head offers very easy string replacement. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Replacing the String
1. Use Craftsman Hassle Free spiral line in your trimmer---this string is specifically designed for use in Hassle Free heads.
2. Remove the glide plate on the bottom of the head and dispose of any old string left in the cutting head.
3. Clean the cutting head thoroughly and replace the glide plate. This must be done before replacing the string.
4. Make sure you align the arrow on the glide plate with the proper position in the cutting head: "A" for smaller-diameter red string used for grass, or "B" for medium red string or heavy black string used for heavier brush.
5. Ensure that the string is folded in a hairpin shape and insert both ends through the holes in the side of the cutting head.
6. Push the string through the holes until the ends protrude from the positioning tunnels on either side of the cutting head.
7. Pull the string evenly through the tunnels until the center of the string fits snugly against the hub of the cutting head. If you installed the string correctly, it will be the same length on both sides of the head.
8. Repeat Steps 5 through 7 on the opposite side of the cutting head for string trimmers that use the Hassle Free Plus cutting head by rotating the head 180 degrees to the opposite side and installing another string.
