Microfiber collects hair more easily than other furniture fabrics.
All furniture comes with a tag stating the manner in which to clean it, and this is true of microfiber furniture as well. Possible cleaning codes are "W," meaning water; "S," meaning solvent; "W/S," meaning use both; and "X" meaning only clean furniture with a dry brush. Use caution when choosing a cleaning product for your microfiber furniture. If you are still uncertain, call the manufacturer for further details. Does this Spark an idea?
Vacuum
A vacuum is the most basic cleaning product for your microfiber furniture. Regularly removing dust, debris and hair from your furniture keeps it looking better longer without the need for any other cleaning products. Try to vacuum furniture weekly in a household with pets or small children. Others may find that monthly vacuuming works well.
Water
If the tag on your microfiber furniture say "W" or "W/S," try using a slightly damp cleaning cloth to wipe off stains. Do not scrub the area vigorously though, as this can stretch out or damage the fabric. Likewise, do not get the area excessively wet.
Cleaning Eraser
A cleaning eraser may work to remove some stains on microfiber. Run the sponge under water, wring it out thoroughly and rub it over the stained area gently. Test this in an inconspicuous area first to ensure that it does not damage your furniture.
Vinegar
Vinegar provides natural and easy cleaning in a gentle formula that does not harm fabric, including microfiber. Mix 1 part vinegar with 3 parts water and spray lightly onto the stained area of the microfiber. Wipe the area gently with a cleaning cloth.
Baking Soda
Baking soda works to freshen and deodorize fabrics without adverse effects. Sprinkle lightly onto the microfiber furniture, let it sit for about 15 minutes, and vacuum off. Take care not to get the baking soda wet while on the microfiber, which makes it difficult to remove without staining.
Rug Doctor Upholstery Cleaner
Rug Doctor sells an Upholstery Cleaner water-based cleaning product. It works well to remove body oil, according to Rug Doctor, and works well with Rug Doctor's Anti-Foam in a Rug Doctor cleaning machine.
Scotchgard Fabric and Upholstery Cleaner
Scotchgard Fabric and Upholstery cleaner works on many fabrics in the home and is used on microfiber furniture marked for cleaning with water, according to the 3M website. In spite of this, 3M recommends users test Scotchgard on a hidden area of the upholstery before applying it to the rest of the furniture. The site also stresses reading the manufacturer's label and warranty information on your furniture before use.
