Find The Worth Of Furniture

Old furniture in good condition may be worth a lot.

Furniture has been around since early man desired a permanent place to sit, sleep and eat. Its first recorded use was in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. Egyptians are credited with making the first functional furniture. A throne was one of the earliest pieces of furniture ever made; basic chairs, tables and storage boxes soon followed.

Since those ancient times, furniture has evolved into pieces ranging from functional to artistic. Its value also varies widely. There are several ways to determine the worth of furniture. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Determine the age of the piece. Check references such as CILSS.org or books such as "Antique Trader Furniture Price Guide" by Mark. F. Moran.

2. Categorize the furniture by its style.

3. Evaluate the condition of the furniture.

4. Look at websites such as eBay.com or Bonanzle.com to find similar pieces and their selling prices. This will give a good indication of the overall worth of the furniture.

5. Take several detailed photographs of the piece including closeups and distance shots. Photograph any damaged areas. Bring the photographs to a furniture dealer for assistance in determining the value of the piece.
