Walmart Foundation
gives large and small grants for charitable purposes.
Walmart Foundation, which gives away millions of dollars in grants each year, has a standard application process for each type of grant it offers. The company gives large grants to large nonprofit organizations, such as the Red Cross, and grants starting at $250 to local organizations. You can apply for a local grant from the Walmart in your community.
Instructions
1. Decide what specific activity you seek funds for. Funding sources, including the Walmart Foundation, rarely give grants to individuals, except for educational or artistic activities, or to profit-making companies. Walmart Foundation gives grants primarily to nonprofit organizations or local government agencies. Before filling out an application or writing an inquiry letter, determine whether you meet the criteria for the funding you want. To do this, you should request the appropriate application form from the Walmart Foundation and review the criteria.
2. Prepare the material for the application. Your proposal should explain to the reviewers at the Walmart Foundation why your proposed project is needed in your community and describe who will benefit. List the measurable objectives you expect to accomplish and detail the plan for accomplishing them. Describe your group's capability to carry out the plan effectively, including the experience and accomplishments of the people involved. Identify the ways in which you intend to measure the success of the activity. Specify the costs for carrying out the plan, including the in-kind contribution and volunteer time your agency will contribute. For example, unreimbursed salary for time spent by employees on a project is counted as an in-kind contribution, sometimes called "matching share."
3. Complete the application with the material you have prepared. Be sure your application responds specifically to what the Walmart Foundation asks, meets its deadline for submission and is in their required format. Your application represents your group to the Walmart Foundation. Be sure that it is neat and grammatically correct with no misspellings.
4. Visit with the local Walmart manager and regional personnel. Explain why the project is important, how it will solve or ease a problem, and how your group will execute the project efficiently and effectively.
