There are many different kinds of ants including grease ants, carpenter ants and fire ants. Most people, however, are most bothered by the above three. These ants can be bothersome, dirty and disgusting. Typically, when they build their mounds in your yard, they try to sneak in the house at some point. For this reason, it is important to get rid of large ant mounds and hills before they become a problem. Use this guide to help you solve the ant problem in your yard.
Instructions
1. Boil three gallons of water. Pour the water over the ant mound. It sounds like a lot of water, but three gallons should be used for only one mound. This will drown and kill most of the ants currently located inside the mound.
2. Sprinkle grits on and around the ant hills. This is an inexpensive way to kill most ants within two weeks. The cereal expands in their stomach after they have eaten it. This makes their stomachs explode.
3. Puree orange peels with water to make a liquid concoction. The exact measurements of peels to water is not as important as the consistency. Make sure it is easy to pour, and dump on the wet area where the mound once stood. This will naturally repel the other ants that were gone when you dumped the boiling water on their home.
4. Walk around the yard and spray liquid insecticide right onto the mounds. This is not a natural way to kill your ants, but it sure is effective.
5. Walk around your house, sprinkling baby powder as you go. Ants hate scented baby powder. If you surround your entire house with a thin layer, you will prevent ants from entering at all points. If you don't have enough to surround the entire house, at least sprinkle baby powder at each door.
