The Mission style of furniture design brings particular attention to the simplicity of the design, drawing focus to the quality and color of the wood rather than the artistry of the design or shape. Instructions
1. Set four 3-by-3-by-36 inch posts upright using an assistant for help. Place a 1/2-by-36-by-48 inch plywood board on top of these posts, which should help them remain upright. Adjust the positioning of each post so they are in the absolute corner of the plywood board, which is the tabletop support board. Straighten each post so the edges are even with the edges of the tabletop support board.
2. Drill two holes down through the tabletop support board and into each of the upward-facing post ends. Set 2-inch wood screws within the holes that have just been made and use a drill to screw them in place tightly.
3. Arrange a 1/2-by-3-by-30 inch board between a pair of the posts that are closer together. Center the board between the posts so there is equal space on either side of this board, which is a table side board. Drill down through the tabletop support board and into the side board, making four evenly spaced holes. Set 2-inch wood screws in the holes and tighten them securely. Repeat for another 1/2-by-3-by-30 inch board on the opposite side.
4. Follow the same procedure to install a 1/2-by-3-by-42 inch board between each set of posts that are further apart.
5. Flip a 1-by-42-by-54 inch tabletop board upside down and set the assembled tabletop support board and posts upside down on top of it. Center the tabletop support board on the tabletop and drill eight holes through the tabletop support board and into the tabletop. Take great care not to drill through the tabletop completely and mar the visible surface. Put 1-inch screws in each hole and tighten them completely to securely attach the tabletop to the tabletop support board. Flip the table back over for use.
