Draw A Pip Boy

PIP Boy is an object from the computer game, "Fallout 3."

PIP Boy is a name referring to a piece of equipment featured in a computer game called "Fallout 3," which is produced by Bethesda Game Studios. The game can be played on Microsoft Windows-enabled computers, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gaming consoles. The game is set in the year 2277, after nuclear war has decimated the world. Players select attributes they want to be strong in from an arm-held device called the Pip Boy 3000, which features a computer screen displaying attribute names, descriptions and strength levels.

Instructions

1. Take a screen shot of the Pip Boy 3000 on your computer if you have the Fallout 3 game installed and use it as a reference for your drawing.

2. Sketch a large rectangle on the paper with an art pencil. Draw a square about 4 inches on all sides in the middle of the rectangle so that the top line of the square and the top line of the rectangle are the same.

3. Round the edges of the rectangle and add two circles, one at the top left of the rectangle and one about 2 inches from the bottom left of the rectangle to represent the PIP Boy 3000 dials.

4. Draw a small rectangle about 2 inches long by 1 inch tall in the bottom center of the square. Add three evenly spaced circles to the inside of the small rectangle. Place triangles facing outward on either end of the circles inside the small rectangle.

5. Add a thin, 1/2-inch frame around the box with four screw heads outside the corners of the frame. Add two semicircles to the right side of the rectangle to give the appearance of an arm-wrapping mechanism, which adheres the PIP Boy 3000 to the character's arm.

6. Begin adding details to finish the drawing, such as turning the top left circle into a pressure gauge. Include an arrow and inner half circle with lines segmenting it. Write the words "Pip Boy" beneath the top left dial. Add four thin horizontal segments beneath the phrase and write the words "Model 3000" on top of a small black rectangular label. Finish the bottom circle by adding small triangles on two sides of it to act as dial pointers.

7. Fill in the square with a sketch of a man with a round head, short arms and legs and four cartoon-style fingers on each hand. Write "Stats" at the top left of the screen above the character and the words "Status," "S.P.E.C.I.A.L.," "Skills," "Perks" and "General" in a row along the bottom of the square beneath the cartoon boy. Write the words "Stats" "Items" and "Data" above the three circles in the small rectangle below the box. Write the letters "LT" in the left triangle next to the circles and "RT" in the right triangle.

8. Shade the object to give it depth, adding ridges along semicircles and vertical, curved lines below the box and small rectangle. Color the PIP Boy navy green with the screen a bright green set against a black background. Add silver to the dials and screw heads with colored pencils or pens. Color the three circles within the small rectangle bright orange-yellow to indicate light.
