Contemporary Wall Colors

Bold colors are given shape with these circular floor rugs.

Contemporary design is modern and technological. While embracing the minimalist on the surface, the look eludes to a high-tech environment with all the modern conveniences. There is a way to make just about any color work. Much of contemporary design involves using bold color combination. Other ways to create this motif include more muted walls for a less overwhelming space. Does this Spark an idea?

Black and White

The contrast that black and white create in a room is bold and contemporary. Consider choosing a dominant color, such as white, and then accenting it with the contrast by painting the trim black or vice versa. According to Juvan design, this is a particularly modern color scheme when decorating a bedroom. Most designers are used to seeing white walls set off with black furniture. To create an even deeper modern look, try reversing these color roles and painting the walls black.

Burnt Colors

Warm burnt colors such as burnt orange and rusty yellows create a contemporary coffee house feel. A contemporary minimalist bedroom featured on fopple.com portrays burnt orange walls. Texture is introduced with wood paneling on half of the wall as well and strategically placed invisible lighting. Bright yellow pull shades and a matching area rug bring the room together. One wall painted white creates the illusion of additional space.

Red

According to Unique Home D cor Ideas, "the palette for contemporary decorating using strong, bright and bold color is an evolving trend." Set off a red wall with other secondary colors such as turquoise, violet or fuchsia. Make a kitchen a work of art through bold color by painting the walls red, the cupboards aqua marine and inside the cupboards a bright orange. Complement these paints with black or stainless steel appliances to make the kitchen a modern utility center.

Beige and Grey

Contemporary doesn't always have to mean bright. Neutral colors have a big place in the color schemes of minimalist designers. Neutral colors can add dimension and space to a room. Mushrooms, beiges, camel hair colors and taupes are your main focus with muted contemporary design. Combine them to give the room character without having to limit yourself with colored walls.

White and Bold

Adding an accent color to white allows you to create a more contemporary look in a room without having to throw out the old furniture and start anew. Using bold primary colors such as deep sea blue, sunflower yellow or crayon red will add cheer to a white space and create a contemporary base from which you can build a room, using what you've got.
