Glasses used to have heavy frames made of metal that pinched the nose and were a burden to those who had to wear them. Glasses that use plastic frames do not have these problems but, on the negative side, tend to break more easily. Repairing a broken plastic frame will let the user get back to wearing them more quickly than taking them back to the eye doctor. The repair will not damage the lenses of the glasses in any way. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Apply sandpaper roughly to each of the broken ends of the eyeglass frame. Blow off any dust or loose plastic. Take a tiny needle and gouge a small hole in each side of the broken frame. Push the needle into one side of the broken frame. Push the other side of the needle into the other side of the broken frame.
2. Fill the tea kettle with water. Put the tea kettle on a stove and boil the water. Turn off the stove.
Pour the boiling water from the tea kettle into the shallow dish.
3. Take the eyeglasses and hold the broken frame section over the boiling water. Wait for the plastic of the broken frame section to soften from the heat. Push the two frame parts together until the needle cannot be seen. Smooth the plastic of the broken section so that the break does not show.
4. Put the eyeglasses down on the cloth. Throw out the water from the shallow dish. Wait for the plastic of the eyeglasses to cool down.
5. Put a drop of super glue on the top side of the eyeglass frame where the two parts have been pushed back together. Wait for the super glue to dry.
Put a drop of super glue on the bottom side of the eyeglass frame where the two parts have been pushed back together. Wait for the super glue to dry.
