Calling an exterminator should be your last resort.
Black ants can be a nuisance that, if not addressed, can lead to major infestation problems that can lead to interior problems with your house. As a result, nipping the problem in the bud early is highly recommended. The use of home remedies, especially those that are natural, are inexpensive and do not carry the same dangers as chemical sprays. Does this Spark an idea?
Bait Food
Find a sugary food that the ants tend to like. Bait the food with an extremely small amount of boric acid and sugar water and place it in a spot where you have seen the ants. Do not put the combination directly on the food since you want the worker ants to bring the deadly mix back to their colony rather than eat it and die. This method may take a month or two to be effective.
Starve Ants
Ants are attracted to food. One way to get rid of ants is to remove their food source. Make a home-improvement project out of covering and enclosing all of the foods in your kitchen. Make sure lids fit tightly and packages are closed. Take a wet rag and wipe down shelves in the kitchen pantry and sweep the floor on a regular basis.
Natural Solutions
Ants do not like certain tastes such as cucumber or mint. Place slices of bitter cucumber or bits of dried mint leaves near spots where you have seen them. This will detract them from moving in their habitual paths. Also try cayenne pepper, string soaked in citrus oil, lemon juice or coffee grounds to detract the ants.
Spray Boric Acid
After finding the ant nest, determine the nearest outlet to the nest and turn off the electricity to it. Spray boric acid into the electrical outlet. This will catch the ants as they travel along the wires. Turn back on the electricity.
