Use craft tools to cover stools in your home.
It can be just as much fun to recycle furniture as it is to go out and buy something new. It's simple to give a well-loved piece a new lease on life with a vibrant new paint color or by adding a bold-patterned fabric. Covering a stool in a fresh new fabric can inject a splash of color or add a subtle twist to a room -- plus it will be an original one-off design by you. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove the old fabric and foam from the top of the stool with a pair of craft pliers, and wipe clean. Keep the fabric and foam in one piece.
2. Use the old foam as a template. Place the new foam flat on a cutting board. Place the old foam on top, and draw around it. Cut the foam along the line with a sharp craft knife.
3. Use a glue gun or glue brush to cover the seat of the stool with a thin layer of craft glue. Keep the glue away from the edges of the stool. Place the new foam onto the stool seat and press down lightly. Leave to fully dry.
4. Cutting the fabric with pinking sheers will prevent the edges from fraying.
Iron the new fabric and lay pattern-side down on a table. Place the old fabric on top and draw around it with a fabric marker. Draw the line 5 cm larger than the original. Cut along the line with a pair of pinking sheers.
5. Lay the fabric out flat. Turn the stool upside down and place the foam in the center of the fabric.
6. Using a staple gun will quickly secure the fabric in place.
Secure one corner of the fabric over the foam and onto the base with a staple gun. Do the same for the other corners if a square stool, or staple around if a circular stool. Then pull the fabric tight over the remaining foam and staple down.
