Affordable Diy Sunroom

Windows that open to let in the breeze are a common feature in sunrooms.

Sunrooms are open and airy spaces, generally surrounded by windows, that are attached to residences. Sunrooms are often used as rooms in which to enjoy meals, typically with guests, and also to enjoy the outdoor scenery. The rooms are also commonly referred to as solariums, enclosed patios or conservatories. For those who are looking for cheap and DIY (do-it-yourself) ways to decorate sunrooms, several different easy and affordable ideas exist. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use a ceiling fan, which is both decorative and functional. Ceiling fans can also help to provide the room with air circulation, which can be a lifesaver when entertaining. To provide the sunroom with a laid-back and tropical ambiance, find a ceiling fan that is equipped with rattan blades.

2. Get a floor lamp. In the daytime, except during inclement weather, lighting is generally not necessary in sunrooms, due to the abundance of windows. However, for the evening hours, floor lamps can be beneficial. Some ideas for stylish and affordable floor lamps include halogen lamps, torchiere lamps, arc floor lamps and mission floor lamps. To be especially economical and to kill two birds with one stone, instead of a floor lamp consider a ceiling fan that comes with a built-in light kit.

3. Decorate the sunroom in off-white. Off-white, as opposed to bright colors and busy patterns, helps to provide a room with a soothing, quiet atmosphere. Off-white is a good choice for the walls, as it can help to create an illusion of space and openness (most sunrooms are relatively small).

4. Get some decorative plants. Sunrooms are supposed to function as the one haven in the residence that has a tropical, outdoorsy and serene ambiance. This feeling can be achieved simply by adding a variety of lush plants. It is important to note, however, that during the summer months, it is very easy for sunrooms to get extremely hot. As a result, it is important to find lush plants that are highly tolerant of heat. Vibrantly colored flowering plants can also do the trick, such as begonias and daisies.

5. Put sheer curtains on the sunroom's ceiling. This is particularly helpful for the hottest months in the year, as these types of curtains are capable of spreading out some of the light that comes in from outside. Attach the curtains in the middle of the ceiling and drape them over hooks to hang down toward the room's corners.
