You may not live in France, and you may not even live in the country, but you can do some remodeling to give the exterior of your home a French country look. French country decorating often plays bright colors and relaxed accents against a white backdrop. Use flowers, window boxes and paint to give your home a welcoming French country look. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove shutters if you have them. Set them aside to give them their own makeover.
2. Paint the exterior of your house white. Give it two coats of a quality exterior paint so you will not have to repeat the job in a year. Allow the paint to dry for 24 to 48 hours.
3. Scrub the shutters clean, using a garden hose and a scrub brush. Allow the shutters to dry completely.
Paint the shutters a bright blue, which is common in French country decorating. Allow the paint to dry for 34 to 48 hours.
4. Return the shutters to their proper places.
5. Measure the bottoms of your window frames and buy flower boxes to fit. Paint the flower boxes the same blue as the shutters.
6. Plant wildflowers in your window boxes.
7. Add potted plants to the porch, patio and sidewalks of your home. Use ivy, evergreens and topiaries to add to the French country look.
8. Place a garden bench on your porch or some other place, inviting people to sit down and relax.
