Hang Wood Chairs

Displaying your fine wooden chairs in a unique way can be challenging--especially if you want to keep your precious antique chairs out for viewing, yet still keep people from sitting on them and damaging them. Shaker pegboard offers a unique and simple way to do this, allowing you to hang your chairs. Traditional Shaker pegboard consists of a 3 1/2-inch-wide hardwood board with holes drilled at 6-inch intervals for Shaker pegs. Installation is simple and the results are as elegant as they are efficient. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure up from the floor to the top of the door in the room you wish to hang your chairs. Mark this measurement all along the wall that the chairs will hang. Mark the stud locations at this height as well, using a stud finder and a pencil.

2. Hold the first section of Shaker pegboard up to the marked height with one end butted up against the door frame. Secure the end against the door frame by nailing an 8d finish nail into the wall stud. Hold a level on the pegboard and adjust the other end until it registers level. Secure that end with a nail into the wall stud. Nail into the other wall studs in the middle of the pegboard. Repeat this across the wall, making sure each section is level with the others. Countersink the nail heads, using a small head nail set.

3. Push in each Shaker peg into the pre-drilled holes in the pegboard. If you find it's too tight to go in all the way, sand the round tenon lightly with 220-grit sandpaper until it fits tightly into the hole. Spread a small amount of wood glue on to the end of a Shaker peg. Push it in as far as you can by hand. Lightly tap in the Shaker peg the rest of the way with a rubber mallet. Install the rest of the pegs in this manner along the pegboard.

4. Hang the wooden chairs on a peg by lifting them up and hanging the headrest centered on one peg. Space the chairs evenly along the Shaker pegboard.
