Hook Up A Bed Headboard To A Metal Bed Frame

Many headboards can be held in position simply by placing them between the bed and the wall. The friction and weight of bed and wall will keep it in place. If your particular arrangement prevents this, you can still easily attach the headboard to a metal frame with a minimum of trouble. Set aside 30 minutes to an hour for this project start to finish. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the mattress, box springs and bedding from the frame. Slide the bed frame way from the wall.

2. Set the headboard in position against the head of your bed. Locate two vertical lines where you could anchor two bolts each through the headboard and into the bed frame. These will typically be along or intersecting rails in the bed frame.

3. Mark the points where you will place the bolts on your headboard, using a pencil. Mark lightly so you can erase later without marring the surface.

4. Remove the headboard. Use the measuring tape and pencil to mark the corresponding positions on the bed frame.

5. Drill four holes the same diameter as your bolts in the headboard, each at one of the marks you've made.

6. Put on your safety goggles. Use a metal cutting drill bit to drill a hole through the bed frame at each of the marks you've made. The bit should be the same diameter as the bolts.

7. Put the headboard back in position. Place one washer on each bolt and slide the bolts through the holes you've drilled, connecting the headboard to the bed frame.

8. Add a nut and washer to the protruding end of each bolt. Tighten them down to secure the headboard.

9. Move the frame and headboard into position. Replace the mattress, box springs and bedding.
