Getting rid of your mattress is easy.
Mattresses last for many years, but when you upgrade to a different size or newer mattress, you need to figure out get rid of the old mattress. Often there is nothing wrong with the mattress and it can still be salvaged, bringing new use to a different family. Since this is a large piece of furniture, it is sometimes hard to figure out the best way to get rid of the mattress. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Purchase a new mattress, and ask the mattress company to deliver the mattress to your home, and take away the old mattress. Most mattress stores offer this service at no charge.
2. Place the mattress in your yard with a "For Sale" or "Free" sign on it. This is an easy way to get rid of the mattress, and sometimes even get a few dollars for the mattress. This also eliminates the need for you to go through the hassle of transporting the mattress.
3. Donate the mattress to your local charitable donation center, or donate to a used furniture store. Often the used furniture store will offer you a small sum of money for the used mattress if they feel they can re-sell it for a profit.
4. Take the mattress to your local dump if it is not salvageable. The dump will weight your vehicle before entering, allow you to drop off the mattress, then weight your vehicle again when you leave. You will be charged a small sum per pound, based on the difference in weight from when you entered the dump to when you left after discarding the mattress.
5. Place the mattress out for large trash day. Typically every few months your local trash company will have a day when they allow you to place large furniture items out with your trash, which they will dispose of at no additional charge. Some communities offer this option, but require you to bring the furniture pieces to a central location within the town.
