All you need is a little creativity to have a fun country and western wedding.
Some couples want their weddings to be elegant, upscale affairs. Others want simple, uncomplicated nuptials. Still others want themed weddings such as Italian, Valentine's Day, or country and western. This last theme is a great idea for several reasons: It's fun and informal, it can be very inexpensive and it's easy to pull off.
Set the Scene
Invite guests to wear cowboy boots and hats.
Decorating for your country and western wedding and reception is one area in which you can really appreciate the cost effectiveness of this theme. No high-priced décor needed: You can make use of wagon wheels, coiled rope, cowboy or Texas flags, and bonnets. Instead of costly linen covers, tie a brightly colored kerchief to the back of each chair. If you're having an outdoor wedding, instead of an elaborate trellis, stack bales of hay for the bride and groom to stand between and adorn with ribbon. Walk down the aisle to country music, and have a simple bouquet of daisies and greenery. For an indoor wedding, hang cowboy-themed art or even old-timey wanted posters on the walls. Get your guests in on the fun by inviting them to dress down or to wear cowboy boots and hats.
Decor and Favors
Use a mini saddle as part of your centerpieces.
Drape denim or red-checked fabric across tables at your reception. Find inexpensive accents at a party supply store: mini cowboy boots and hats, spurs, branding irons, saddles and horses. Place fake tumbleweed adorned with said accents on each table as a centerpiece. Another centerpiece idea is quart mason jars filled with wildflowers picked that morning. Serve dinner on tin plates and cups. Wedding favor ideas are limitless: boot- or cowboy hat-shaped candles, cookie-cutters, refrigerator magnets or soap, strips of packaged of beef jerky tied together with a leather thong and ribbon, wildflower seed packets, mini tin cups, a daisy-topped bottle cork.
Food and Drink
Country and western fare: pork chops, mashed potatoes and green beans.
Feeding and watering guests is another way wedding costs inflate. Fortunately for you, country and western fare is comparatively inexpensive. Instead of veal, sea bass, pâté and asparagus, you're looking at pork chops, baked or fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, greens, green beans, corn, cornbread and the like. Or, you can go the barbecue route: barbecued meats, potato and macaroni salads, baked beans, Texas toast and coleslaw. If you don't have relatives who can whip up these country favorites, they're economically priced even if you cater them. For dessert, have a wedding cake that looks like a longhorn steer or a cowboy hat or a horse, or one that is decorated with cowboy boots or belt buckles or whips, spurs and saddles. And skip the fancy champagne and wines---and the expense of hiring a bartender. Drag out coolers and tubs full of ice and beer, root beer, sweet tea and lemonade.
