About Mexican Wedding
Dresses
If you will be getting married soon and are of Mexican descent, you may want to choose a wedding dress that reflects your heritage. Mexican wedding dresses and accessories are available in a variety of colors and styles, and will help to make your wedding day even more memorable. Does this Spark an idea?
Huipil
The huipil is a blouse-like dress that many Mexican women choose to wear on their wedding day. The huipil is very colorful, and contains elaborate stitching. The designs on the huipil can serve to indicate the community that the bride belongs to, and certain stitching patterns can display the woman's marital status, making the huipil ideal for weddings. The embroidery of the dress can be done with silk ribbon or thread in order to make the huipil more formal for the occasion.
Flamenco Wedding Dresses
The fashion in Mexico is largely influenced by the clothes that were traditionally worn in Spain, and the wedding dress is no exception. Especially formal wedding dresses are white, and go all the way down to the floor--some even have a train. The Spanish or Flamenco-style wedding dress is figure-fitting, and has a mermaid shape. There are layers of ruffles at the bottom of the dress, similar to the dresses that Flamenco dancers wear.
Formal Dresses
Some formal Mexican wedding dresses are designed with lace and satin, and have very full and elaborate skirts. These dresses sometimes have a very long train, and are adorned with pearls or rhinestones in some cases. Formal Mexican wedding dresses are often conservative at the top and may have short sleeves, as well as a modest bustline. However, some brides have their dresses altered to fit their personal style.
Wedding Dress Accessories
In keeping with Flamenco fashion, a number of Mexican brides may carry a fan down the aisle as opposed to a bouquet of flowers. It is also common for brides to wear a mantilla, which is a long, elaborate veil that is decorated with flowers or lace--the veil is often just as long as the wedding dress. Some brides may also choose to wear a red flower in their hair to complement the mantilla.
Winter Weddings
It is acceptable for the bride to wear items that will keep her warm during her winter wedding, and these accessories can be just as beautiful as the dress itself. A bolero is often worn to cover the arms and back, and can be created in silk or satin. The bride can also wear a quechquémitl in colder months, which is a thick cape, similar to a stole, that drapes off of the shoulders. The endredo which is a large skirt that wraps around the waist, can also be part of the winter wedding outfit to keep the bride's legs warm, and is available in a variety of colors.
