Care For Scratched Cherry Wood Flooring

Cherry is a hardwood with a fine, closed grain and a rich red color palette that deepens as it ages. Cherry's versatility and beauty make it a popular wood for everything from high-quality furniture to musical instruments to flooring. The finish on cherry flooring typically is clear since the wood is naturally attractive. Fixing light scratches in cherry floors requires attention to detail. It is important to repair scratches as they appear to avoid further damage to the floor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Rub the scratched area of the cherry flooring with the steel wool pad. Always rub with the grain to avoid further scratching the floor surface. Rub until you dull the surface directly surrounding the scratch. This will allow the wood putty to adhere to the flooring.

2. Wipe the surface of the flooring in and around the scratch with a tack cloth to remove any dust or debris.

3. Fill the scratch with cherry-colored wood putty using a plastic putty knife. Allow the putty to dry at least 24 hours.

4. Sand the putty flush with the surface of the floor using 180-grit sandpaper.

5. Clean the repaired area of the flooring with a tack cloth to remove any dust and debris.

6. Touch up the repaired area with a matching clear wood finish using a poly brush. Allow 72 hours before walking on the repaired area of the floor.
