Collect China Teacups

Collecting teacups can be a great hobby for many reasons. The teacups make a great addition to your home, they are often valuable, and it's intellectually stimulating to discover the history behind antique items. Before actually looking for teacups, it is best to do some research and make some decisions on what kind of collection you are going to have. 1. Study up on the subject. There are a multitude of books on the subject that describe the different types of china teacups, what to look for to verify their authenticity, and up-to-date price guidelines. Most teacups also have back stamps, which tell you who made the cup and when. If you are going to be a serious teacup collector, one of these books is a must.


2. Decide if you are actually going to serve tea in these cups, or just put them on display to make an impression. Really expensive teacups are probably best left in the china cabinet.


3. Decide what kind of teacups you are trying to collect. The available selections include teacups made by certain porcelain companies, teacups from certain countries, and teacups with specific patterns or designs.


4. Shop for the teacups in many different places. Teacups can be found at antique shops, garage sales, and flea markets. There are also auctions on the Internet as well as websites that specialize in selling antique teacups. You might even find valuable teacups in your own family that have been passed down from generation to generation.


5. Examine the teacups to determine their condition. Look for cracks or chips in the teacup. Check to see if the handles have been broken and glued back on.


6. Decide how much money you want to spend, and set a limit.


7. Ask for papers authenticating pieces, particularly if you are buying rare and expensive teacups. Be aware there are forgeries out there.
