From family-friendly amusement attractions to free playgrounds, Dallas is home to entertaining and educational venues that are sure to please.
The Dallas World Aquarium
The Dallas World Aquarium features a variety of entertaining and educational exhibits that will interest kids of all ages. The Orinoco Secrets of the River exhibit includes many different rain forest species of birds, mammals, amphibians, fish, and reptiles, while the Aquarium itself has both indoor and outdoor attractions, a 22,000-gallon Continental Shelf area, a 10,000-gallon tank with sea dragons and fish from around the world. Adventurous kids can enjoy viewing the Mundo Maya exhibit that comes complete with sharks and rays. The aquarium is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from September 1 through February 28, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 1 to August 31. Memberships are available, and children under two years old are free.

Sandy Lake Amusement Park
The Sandy Lake Amusement Park has rides for kids of all ages, plus a swimming pool, paddle boats, an arcade, and picnic pavilions. For decades, this family owned and run park has catered to Dallas families and groups with fun-filled attractions and entertainment. Older kids will enjoy thrill rides such as the park orbiting Space Shuttle, the twisting and turning Rock O Plane, or the spinning Zumur. Little ones may like the Tilt A Whirl or Bumper Cars. The park also hosts groups visits, school parties and carnivals, family reunions, and kids' birthday parties. Sandy Lake is open yearly from min-March through mid-September. Spring and late summer/early fall hours are weekend only, while summer (June through mid-August) hours are held Tuesday through Sunday.

Dallas Parks
The Dallas Parks Department operates 374 parks. Fun kids' park places include the 183 playgrounds, 22 pools, 47 recreation centers, and 7 spray grounds. Most Dallas Park's pools are open annually from June through August. As of the 2010 season, admission prices are $1 for kids under 11 and $2 for children and adults over the age of 12. Recreation centers offer a variety of child-friendly activities such as sports classes and summer camps. Spray grounds combine water fun with the activity and entertainment of playground equipment. These action packed aquatic adventure zones are open from the end of May through the beginning of September.
