The avatar is an animated image that will represent you in the virtual world of Second Life, and of course you want to look your best. Fortunately, almost every feature of the figure--from its face to its body to its clothes--is changeable.
Instructions
1. Start your Second Life by creating an account at the home page (see Resources below). Click on the "Join" link.
2. Select an avatar, provide the other requested information and hit "Download." The Second Life icon will appear on your desktop.
3. Learn about designing avatars and altering their appearances from guides provided on the site, especially the video tutorial "Change Your Appearance" (see Resources below).
4. Enter Second Life through the icon and go to "Connect." You will see your avatar along with others strolling in a virtual setting.
5. Right-click your avatar; a circle with choices in it will appear. Click on "Appearance." A close-up of your avatar will appear, as will a grid with choices.
6. Study the grid. Note the many areas that you can change. These include body, face and clothes.
7. Select "Face" and look at the options, which include "Eyes," "Eyebrows" and "Nose." You can start with part of the body or face. To start with the avatar's eyes, click "Eyes."
8. Look at the series of boxes and the scale line under each one. Use your mouse to position the scale indicator; the first choice is eye size, between "Beady" and "Anime."
9. Use the mouse to move the indicator across the percentage scale. Zero is very small eyes and 100 is very large. As you move the mouse, the changes will show up on the image to the right. Keep adjusting until you're satisfied.
10. Proceed in the same way with the other aspects listed for eyes, such as how far apart they are, how wide open, whether the corners turn up or down. Each characteristic can be changed by moving the scale indicator. Don't forget to save after each change.
11. Do the same with the rest of the avatar's face, then move to other parts of the appearance, such as head, body, legs and clothes. There are many choices for each one.
