A clean install can be the best way to install a large update for a computer operating system. A clean install will erase everything on the selected hard drive and install the updated operating system as if it were being put onto a new computer.
Instructions
1. Insert your Windows XP SP2 CD into a drive and restart your computer. When you are presented with the BIOS screen, push a "Function" button -- usually either F2 or F10 -- to go into your boot options.
2. Select the option to boot from your CD/DVD drive. Wait for the CD to load and you will be presented with a blue installation screen. Press the "Enter" button to continue. You can also press the "F3" button to quit the install.
3. Read the terms of agreement and press "F8" to continue. You will be asked to partition your hard drive on the next screen. Choose the partition you would like to install XP onto and press enter. If you do not have any partitions defined, press the "C" button to create a partition and format the partition to NTFS.
4. Wait for the computer to restart and continue to the install screen automatically. Select your region and language and press "Next." Enter your name, product key, computer name, date, time and time zone. Press "OK" to finish installation and enjoy your clean install of Windows XP SP2 update.
