Regardless of finish, color or texture, all types of hardwood flooring require regular maintenance, especially cleaning. Proper cleaning is especially important with cherry wood flooring due to its naturally soft texture. Cherry wood typically come from trees that are at least two hundred years old and is appealing as flooring because of its fine, straight grain and satiny smooth texture. While cherry wood's soft texture requires special protection habits, cleaning cherry wood floors is much like cleaning any other types of wood flooring. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Sweep the dirt and debris from your cherry wood floor at least twice a week. If the cherry wood is located in a heavily traveled area, sweep daily. Use a vacuum cleaner and brush to clean corners and hard-to-reach areas.
2. Use a soft, lightly damp mop to clean your flooring once a week. Clean the floor in sections, such as a two-by-two foot square, and rinse the mop regularly. After mopping, use a soft, dry towel to thoroughly dry the surface of your cherry wood floor. Always ask the professional who installed your flooring what cleaning and polishing products they recommend to keep your flooring gleaming and beautiful.
Remember: never use ammonia or an oil-based soap to clean your hardwood flooring.
3. Protect your cheery wood floors. Constant exposure to sunlight can damage the natural color of your floors. Over time, sunlight can fade the natural beauty of your hardwood floors. Therefore, purchase curtains, shades or have protective tint installed on windows to prevent damage to your cherry wood floors from sunlight.
Buy area rugs for heavy traffic areas. These area rugs should not have rubberized backing nor should they have a non-breathing surface. Areas rugs should be cleaned regularly to stop dirt, sand, and grit from being ground into the cherry wood.
4. Avoid damaging your floors. Do not wear high heels or stilettos of any type on cherry wood floors. If your home has large areas of cherry wood flooring, utilize carpet runners to protect high traffic areas from scratches and gouges. Never drag furniture, especially heavy furniture, across your cherry wood floors. Keep your pet's nails clipped, especially if they are an indoor pet. Immediately blot-up and dry any spilled liquid from your cherry wood floors. Water is the worst enemy of cherry wood flooring. Water and moisture of any type can expand the boards and could ultimately cause your floors to warp and splinter. Place mats in areas where water can be splashed.
