One of the easiest and least expensive ways to brighten up a room or spark a whole design plan is with an accent like a footstool. Whether you buy a new one from a craft or furniture store, or stumble across a thrift-store or yard-sale find, turning it into the exact piece you want is simple.
Instructions
1. Remove the top of the footstool from its legs with the screwdriver.
2. Remove the existing fabric, or just spray it with adhesive and attach a layer of batting, if you want to add padding. If you add more than one layer of batting, spray a layer of adhesive between each one. Let the adhesive dry thoroughly.
3. Lay out your fabric with the printed side down, and place the footstool top face down on top of it.
4. Cut out the fabric around the footstool top, making sure you have enough to cover the top and wrap over the bottom to be stapled. Cut this piece about 2 inches bigger all around than you need.
5. Fold up one side of the fabric over the back of the footstool top and staple it. Repeat with the opposite side. Either pleat the corners to lie flat, or carefully cut away the excess fabric. Staple the two remaining sides.
6. Cut away the extra fabric and treat the edges with a line of Fray-Stop to keep them from unraveling. You can also turn the loose edges under and staple them.
7. Reattach the footstool top to the legs, using the original screw holes and screws.
