Hot Glue A Cushion Button On A Sofa

Use hot glue guns on fabric, metal or wood objects.

Buttons become loose or fall from sofa cushions from the constant stretching as the fabric shifts from the weight placed on the furniture. Loose or absent buttons may make the sofa appear old and bedraggled. Fixing the button by sewing it back on may prove to be a frustrating mission, especially with large cushions. Using a hot glue gun to glue the button back in place provides a much simpler solution to repairing the furniture.

Instructions

1. Vacuum the sofa cushion with a sweeper attachment or a hand-held vacuum to remove dust before gluing the button.

2. Wipe the button with a lint-free cloth. Inspect the button for scratches before gluing it to the cushion. You may want to substitute a new button for one with noticeable blemishes.

3. Load the glue gun with the glue stick. Turn on the gun and allow it to heat for three to five minutes, or however long the glue gun instructions indicate.

4. Hold the button in one hand and apply a dollop of glue to the back side. Move the glue with the gun nozzle to distribute it evenly over the back of the button.

5. Push the button into the sofa fabric, and hold it there for 30 seconds. Slowly remove your hand from the button to keep from nudging it out of place. Avoid sitting on the sofa for 24 hours to allow the glue to bond to the fabric.
