Decorate A Living Room With Brown Leather Furniture

Relax in a casually decorated living room with a brown leather couch.

Perhaps you fell in love with the rich texture of the dark leather living room set in the showroom and just had to have it for your own house. Maybe you inherited the brown furniture from a relative. Possibly, leather furniture is the best option because you have an allergy to house dust and leather doesn't harbor dust mites the same way fabric-upholstered furniture does. Whatever your reason, incorporate the furniture into your living room with stylish aplomb and an eye for comfort. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the living room walls with a light shade of neutral color if you want the brown leather furniture to stand out as the main focal point. Paint the walls a darker shade of a matching brown tone if the furniture is oversize or bulky so that the furniture blends in rather becoming a looming presence.

2. Place end tables with rounded corners next to the leather furniture. Squared-off wood or pointed metal table corners may cause unsightly light-colored scratches or tears in the brown leather if the tables are bumped into the furniture.

3. Position a brown leather couch across an open area of the room to create a visual and physical divider in a house with an open floor plan. Face the seating portion of the couch in toward the living room area, and the back toward the remaining floor space expanse. Place brown leather chairs, chairs upholstered in contrasting fabric or a love seat facing toward the couch to form a cohesive conversation area layout.

4. Set brightly colored, washable, polyester-filled pillows on the furniture to accessorize if reducing dust mites is the reason for using leather furniture in the room. Leave wood and laminate floors bare or add warmth and dimension to the room with small throw rugs made of fabric that can be easily laundered.

5. Highlight the shades of brown in the furniture's leather with other room decorating elements. If the couch is chocolate brown, use chocolate-brown frames for the artwork and select an area rug with chocolate-brown fibers as part of its design. Match a deep red footstool with reddish-brown leather and gold-toned tapestry curtains with leather that has yellow undertones.
